Our popular Agar Powder is odourless and flavourless so can be used in a wide variety of recipes without impacting the flavour. Agar is most commonly used as a vegan alternative to gelatine, but it's an extremely versatile ingredient in the kitchen, particularly for those following plant based, raw food or egg free diets.

Read about the surprising health benefits Agar offers - it's very nutrient rich. For a hard set add 1 teaspoon per cup of liquid. Heat to 90 degrees centigrade and stir until disolved (don't boil excessively). Agar will expand upon rehydrating and set at room temperature.

Agar dried sea vegetable (Gracilaria verrucosa) extract 100%

  1. Measure the agar powder: Use approximately 0.5 to 1 teaspoon (2–5g) per 100ml of liquid, depending on desired firmness.

  2. Mix with liquid: Stir the agar powder into cold water, milk, juice, or any liquid before heating to prevent clumping.

  3. Boil and dissolve: Heat the mixture while stirring continuously until it reaches a rolling boil. Boil for 1–2 minutes to fully dissolve the agar.

  4. Pour and set: Pour the liquid into molds or containers. It will begin to set as it cools (usually at around 32–40°C). No refrigeration is needed, but chilling speeds up the process.

  5. Use in recipes: Ideal for making jellies, puddings, vegan desserts, or as a thickener in sauces and soups.
